HOT ICE SHOW DEDICATED TO SKATING LEGEND BETTY CALLAWAY.

The ice skating world recently received the sad news that ice skating legend and top British coach, Betty Callaway passed away at the age of 83.

Betty began her professional ice skating career at The Arena, Pleasure Beach Blackpool, taking part in numerous ice productions between 1946 to 1951. After performing to thousands at The Arena, Betty took to tuition and famously guided Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean to gold during the 1984 Winter Olympics.

Betty remained close to The Arena, visiting the Hot Ice Show productions each year and provided a forward to the Hot Ice – Unrivalled Excellence book, published in 1997.

Hot Ice Show Director and Producer, Amanda Thompson commented “Betty’s passing is a real loss to the skating world. Her incredible talent has gone on through her coaching to create so many skating stars. Betty remained a fan of Hot Ice and never missed a show. She was a truly wonderful lady and will be much missed by all of us here at Pleasure Beach”.

In memory of Betty, Amanda Thompson has decided to dedicate this year’s production of Hot Ice Show called Aura to Betty Callaway.
